Information

We are the Dark pokemon. We rule by fear and by vicious strength, but this is only because we must, to defend ourselves and to obey our trainers. We are not "evil" beasts as some say, just mysterious and misunderstood. We are the snakes, wolves, and black cats of the Pokemon world. All we ask is to be respected. Go on and read about us and learn.

What?! How embarrasing...

Japanese Name: Burraki

English Name: Umbreon

Name Anaylisis

First, the Japanese. "R" and "L" sounds are interchangeable in the Japanese language according to what I have read, thus "Burraki" translates to "Blacky". "Akki" is also a word for "devil", therefore Burraki might mean something like "Black Devil"

English. Umbra is "dark" from Latin, and in English is used for the darkest part of a shadow. "Eon" keeps with the "Eon" evolution-theme in Eevees.

Type: Dark

Evolution: Aquire a starter Eevee from Bill in Goldenrod City or win one at the Saffron Game Corner. (Go for Bill!) Evolves from Eevee through Happiness Rating only at night. Happiness can be achived through Haircuts and healing with Fresh Water, Soda, and Lemonade, as well as using it in battle frequently.

Breeding: For more Eevees, Umbreon can be bred with either a Ditto or another Eevee(lution) of the opposite gender. My suggestion is to do this early on so that the Day Care people do not raise your Umbreon. Breeding with non-Eevee/Ditto pokemon produces those other species.

Pokedex Entries: Gold "When agitated, this pokemon sprays poisonous sweat from its pores" Silver "When darkness falls, the rings on its body begin to glow, striking fear into the hearts of anyone nearby"

Hmmm...small hips...maybe the poor guy has displesya...

Japanese Name: Derubiru

English Name: Houndour

Name Analysis

Japanese. "Debiru" is a word probably borrowed from English meaning "devil", thus "Deribiru" seems to be a play on this word. (Maybe it’s literal translation is "Delivil"? *snickers*)

English. "Hound" and "Dour" (Hound being a dog, of course, and dour meaning "sullen" or "gloomy"), basically, Houndour is a gloomy-dog.

Type: Dark/Fire

Evolution: Catch Houndour between Saffron and Celedon Cities in that little patch of grass on the side of the road at night. Evolves into Houndoom at Lv. 24. If you are impaitient for evolution, use an Exp. Share on it and keep it on your team.

Pokedex Entries: Gold "It uses diffrent kinds of cries for communicating with others of its kind and for pursing its prey." Silver "To corner prey, they check each other's location using barks that only they can understand."

Hard at work. Nothing is scarier than a horny dog @_@! Stay away from my leg!!!

Name Analysis

Japanese Name: Heruga

English Name: Houndoom

Japanese. Possibly a shortening of "heru-gaado", "Hell-guard". (*Thinks* I should have named my Houndoom "Cerberus" instead of "Fenris"…Say, that would make a cool pokemon, Dark dog with three heads. *nevermind*)

English. "Hound" and "Doom". If you don’t know what those mean, you need to go back to English class and learn your vocabulary.

Type: Dark/Fire

Evolution: Evolves from Houndour at Lv. 24

Pokedex Entries: Gold "If you are burned by the flames it shoots from its mouth, the pain will never go away" Silver "Upon hearing its eerie howls, other pokemon get the shivers and head straight back to their nests."

This scarecrow isn't scarin' me.

Japanese Name: Yamikarasu

English Name: Murkrow

Name Analysis

Japanese. "Yami" means "darkness". The whole name translates to "dark crow".

English. "Murk" (or "Mirk") and "Crow". Mirk is darkness/obscurity, and a crow is a little black scavenging bird in the raven family J

Type: Dark/Flying

Evolution: None. Get Murkrow same area as Houndour.

Pokedex Entries: Gold "Feared and loathed by many, it is believed to bring misfortune to all who see it at night." Silver "It is said when chased, it lures the attacker onto dark mountain trails where the foe will get lost."

Aw, it's sleeping...in a raided Pidgey nest?

Name Analysis

Japanese Name: Nyuura

English Name: Sneasel

Japanese. "Nya" is "meow" the sound that a cat makes. "Ura" has a meaning of "wrong side" and "nyuuraru" is "neural" (Sounds like a Psychic-pokemon name). Combined, it could be a play on all of these words, like "wrong side of neural" ("reverse of Psychic"?) with meow. It is after all, a cat (a Shadow-cat! ^_^!)

English. Sneasel, "Sneak" and "Weasel" (a "sneaky weasel"? what’s up with that? It’s a cat, not a weasel!)

Dark/Ice

Evolution: None. Find outside Mount Silver at night.

Pokedex Entries: Gold "Its paws conceal sharp claws. If attacked, it suddenly extends the claws and startles the enemy." Silver "Vicious in nature, it drives Pidgey from their nests and feasts on the eggs that are left behind"

He's just mad because he didn't get a part in Jurrasic Park 3

Name Analysis

Japanese Name: Bangirasu

English Name: Tyranitar

Japanese. "Evening Glare"?

English. Tyranitar is "Tyrant" and "monitor lizard". It also conjures up "tyrannosaurus", big, flesh-eating dinosaur! Raworrrr!

Type: Dark/Rock

Evolution: Evolves from Pupitar at Lv. 55. Pupitar evolves from Larvitar at Lv. 30. Get Larvitar inside Silver Cave.

Pokedex Entries: Gold "It's body cannot be harmed by any kind of attack, so it is very eager to make challenges against enemies." Silver "Extremely strong, it can change the landscape. It has an insolent nature that makes it not care about others."

The name analysis came from my desire for it, and AIM discussion with Sforzie, who knows more Japanese than I do and helped me to find the Japanese meanings. Frankly, I think the Japanese names are cooler, certainly scarier, but cooler. I would rather have a "Hell-guard’ than a "Houndoom" ^_^! Though, in the case of "Umbreon" I like the English name better as it denotes shadows and fits with the whole "eon" theme, which unites the Eevees in a way that their Japanese names don’t for me.
